Variations in the response of childhood iron deficiency anemia to oral iron.

D URING RECENT STUDY to determine the frequency of the different types of anemia present in “well” infants and children attending a Maternal-Child Health clinic in eastern Saudi Arabia, it was found that at least 98.4 percent of anemic children had iron deficiency which was due to inadequate dietary intake of iron. This report is to point out that many seeming failures to respond to iron may be due to inadequate dosage or other problems and not to iron being improper therapy.
